About Stellenbosch North also known as The Greater Simonsberg

The Greater Simonsberg has what is known as the Simonsberg Conservancy which is a nonprofit and public benefit organization which supports its members in their conservation efforts including providing services in the surrounding communities. The conservancy includes very rare Renosterveld Fynbos. Established in 2004 as part of Cape Natures Stewardship Program the conservancy started with 5 wine estates and has now grown organically to currently 19 wine estates. These 19 wine estates act as curators of the conservancy both by protecting and conserving the area with sustainable practices and Klapmutskap though a mere 150 hectares has wonderful wildlife and other gems including a small forest of Breederiver Yellowwood trees of Botanical importance. It is also a meeting point of three different geological formations being Sandstone, Granite and conglomerate which support three various Fynbos vegetation types namely Fynbos/Afromontane Forest, ( Sandstone ), Boland Granite, Fynbos ( Granite and a Mountain Fynbos – Boland.
