The Canopy Tour - Ziplining is a second by second adrenalin rush from one mountain to the other via steel cables down which you slide at some serious pace in the Hottentots Holland Mountain Nature Reserve, Elgin. Grabouw and Elgin are located some 65 km`s south east of Cape Town over Sir Lowry’s pass along the N2 highway. Grabouw is the commercial centre for Elgin Valley The largest single export fruit-producing area in South Africa. The Original inhabitants of the area were the Khoi Khoi pastoralists and the San hunter gatherers. The Dutch colonists settled in the area in the 1600’s dispossessing the natives of their land. The town was created on the farm Grietjiesgat in 1856 by Wilhelm Langschmidt a painter from Cape Town who named Grabouw after its birthplace in Germany.

The early 1900’s saw the development of the deciduous fruit farming become the town’s main economic growth engine and now the hub of South Africa’s export of apples and pears. By the end of the 20th century there was a market shift in the balance of the economy with the introduction of viticulture and planting of new vineyards and a significant increase in tourism.
Sliding down a cable stretched between two mountains at some serious pace, hundreds of feet above the valley`s and streams below, while perching on ledges built into the mountain side or cliffs in between slides up to 320 meters in length makes for a thrill a second. This is a major adrenaline shock to your system, not for sufferers of Acrophobia what so ever.

Elgin Railway Market - Roger Orpen created the Elgin Railway Market by converting the old apple warehouse into a bustling steam punk station market for local vendors to both promote and sell their goods with a back ground of live music in the magnificent Overberg town. Here Orpen created a market unique in its structure where art deco meets Victorian. Orpen than in conjunction with the Ceres Rail Company has a genuine steam train come to the market a few times a month. The whistle and steam train never fails to excite both children and adults alike. Visitors to the market can greet the train on the station platform or view its arrival from the Market's leisure deck overlooking the railway.

Once in the venue, market visitors can choose from food vendors purveying everything from fragrant curries (The Curry Pot), to schwarmas (Ardi’s), pizza (Corlie’s Italian Kitchen) and ribs and burgers from The Station Grill. Sample Mexican dishes from El Sombrero and pies, tarts and quiches from Pudding and Pie or cheeses, breads, dips, pates and dolmades from Corne s Deli Delights. Health conscious treats include fresh juices (Splashh smoothies) and low carb breads with various fillings from Le Food. Ella’s Elgin Farm Foods offers local items such jaffels, vetkoek, pancakes and a soup of the day. Visitors can also stop in for a snack from biltong stall Sud-Wes.
Sweets treats are abundant, including home-made cakes from Flour+Love and ice-cream and waffles-on-a-stick from #Rollin. A bar serves local wines, beer and cider and L-Gin, an artisanal gin bar serves up local craft gins.

Ground Central Coffee serves home ground brews and roastery Pater Tom offers flavorsome beans whilst the upstairs wine shop, Sovinho stocks excellent Overberg wines.
A variety of retail offerings can be found on the mezzanine and ground floor with jewellery from Ruby Rose and Shelley Taylor Designs, leather goods from Lotus Leather, classic clothing and oddities from Vintage Salvage, pottery from The Potter at Almenkerk at HandMaiden Crafts, wooden pieces from JAC Wood Crafts and Valley Woodworms Project. Visitors can also grab fresh cut flowers from Oak Valley on the way out.
